The minimum wage...

It dawned on me this morning that the minimum wage isn't just about fairness to low paid workers.

It's also about making sure income tax is paid.

Before bosses could pay £2 an hour on the books and then slip you £50 from petty cash. With the minimum wage the boss has to pay a set minimum and you'll end up paying income tax.

Sneaky, sneaky. I came to that conclusion after the Labour government introduced the law and conservatives (usually more capitalist) are continuing it.The National Minimum Wage rates : Directgov - EmploymentInformation on the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rates, guidance in foreign languages and advice on what to do if you have any problems with being paid the NMW.
